   We get asked a lot if WhosOn chat is secure.

For the Installable edition all you need to do is get an SSL cert for the domain that the chat virtual directory is on. Then assign this cert to the IIS site.

Then in WhosOn set the 'Chat URL' in the WhosOn server settings to 'https://' instead of 'http://'. Then re-generate the embedded code and change any manual chat links on your web pages to https://

When a visitor requests a chat the chat window will then load on a secure site (https). The chat will then be secure.

The WhosOn Client itself always encrypts data sent to and from the WhosOn server regardless of SSL certificates. 

Hosted customers use secure chat by default.
