If you want to run both these products at once, you will find that they both try to write to .htaccess.  This causes issues as IISPassword doesn't understand ISAPI Rewrite's directives.

It is necessary to get IISPassword to use a different file for its access.  Open up IIS Manager, right click on the "Web Sites" node, go to properties.

then go to the IISPassword tab, and enter a new name for the access file - .iisaccess for instance.

Updated as you stated in IIS manager to .iisaccess as the file type so that we can then run ISAPI Rewrite and IISPassword but when a secure folder is created via our control panel it still creates the files in .htaccess file format and when I try to update this to .iisaccess it ain't liking me :-S any ideas?

Hi Jmunji,

What control panel do you use?
What error does it give when you try to rename to .iisaccess?

Is it because IISPassword has already created this file?

Hey

Its helm running on 3.2.10 strange thing is i thought right will remove and re install the password protection on their domain did it and it still came back using .htaccess instead of .iisaccess as setup in IIS win2003 ver 6(in case you ask lol). when i try a rename it asks for a file type thats manually changing it not through iis as its already set up their. Each domain is within its own application pool and network service does have access to folders in question.

Cheers if you can advise further.

Hi,

Unfortunately I don't have any control over the helm code - I've got a new version of the helm control library planned, but haven't been able to work on the APIs as yet.

hello,
sry, this thread is a bit old. I was faced with the same problem today and found this thread via google.

My Problem was:
IISPassword an ISAPI_Rewrite3 on the same machine, which is controlled by a Helmpanel.

It is possible to change configurefilename for IISPassword, but Helm cant(or wouldn't ;) ) recognize that.

Just tell ISAPI_Rewrite3 to use another configurationfilename, instead of .htaccess. This is possible by adding following line to ISAPI_Rewrite3 httpd.conf(located at:C:\Program Files\Helicon\ISAPI_Rewrite3\httpd.conf or the place isapi_rewrite3 is installed at):
AccessFileName .irwaccess

(just replace .irwaccess with some name you like)

ISAPI_Rewrite3 Documentation:
http://www.helicontech.com/isapi_rewrite/doc/AccessFileName.htm

maybe it helps sometime....

Hi,

Thanks for this!  I didn't realise that ISAPI_Rewrite had the same functionality - I've added this to our KB.

We'd like to improve our Helm integration but unfortunately haven't got very far with them.

Daniel

I think that you can close this one now just downloaded a new version of Isapi Re write and they have changed from using .htaccess to .irwshelp so should not cause a conflict anymore.

Best regards
