We have fought this for a week and now learned enough to test with telnet.  If we telnet we can connect, but any attempt to send will be rejected with a 530 Authentication required.  Server is set to Allow Authentication.

Here is a bounce from our primary domain.

This is the mail delivery agent at messagelabs.com.

I was not able to deliver your message to the following addresses.

   <expose@fox.cascadeseattle.com>:

Connected to 67.136.248.232 but sender was rejected.

Remote host said: 530 Authentication required

Is this telnet'ing against the Email2DB Mail Server?

What is the response from telnet when you open the port?

And are you doing it on the localhost?

Not sure of your question.

>> What is the response from telnet when you open the port?

If I telnet to the static IP or to localhost, I get the same results.  The Email2DB server gives the responses above.

It is clearly rejecting all attempts to forward from any other mail server by requiring authentication.  I have it set to "Allow Authentication".  Should we remove any authentication & just turn on reverse DNS checking?

Is the To Address assigned to an Email2DB Account or User?

If not - Email2DB will not relay the message unless the sender IP has been added to the Trusted Hosts list.

Steve,  I am not sure why I am having dificulty getting this explained.  My original post basically answers it all.  (it said telenet, it said static IP, its shows the response that an external mail server receives, it is a valid account on email2DB.
Yes the email address is assigned to a user account.  I can access the account with Thunderbird.
- I can send to the account from a script with user@domain.com and a password.

*** What does not work is an email from any other server to user@domain.com.  Email2DB refuses indicating that authentication is needed.

Hi,

Please contact the support desk and open a support ticket - as they will need to see your settings.  There will be some reason for it - since its not a generic issue with the Email2DB mail server. As you said it should be working - I was simply trying to get more info
